Religious freedom means the government can't establish a religion or punish you for practicing yours. It doesn't mean your religion gets to override civil rights laws. Christians remain the overwhelming majority in Congress, on the Supreme Court, and in the electorate. 'Persecution' in this context usually means being asked to respect other people's rights too.
