The ACA expanded private insurance through marketplaces and Medicaid — it's the opposite of socialized medicine. 'Death panels' was PolitiFact's Lie of the Year in 2009: it referred to optional end-of-life counseling, a benefit already covered by Medicare. Since passage, uninsured rates fell dramatically and pre-existing condition protections became law.
